It’s going to be a glorious day when Ari Aster returns to proper horror. For now, the Philippou Brothers are taking up the slack and doing a magnificent job exploring grief.
Aster, on the other hand, has been making a modern western called Eddington and while it still has that Aster human interaction with deep dialogue this looks more like a thriller than anything else.
Today an official trailer dropped for Eddington so you can see for yourself where Aster has been since Beau is Afraid. As a political western that takes place in the time of COVID, Eddington looks fantastic.
Whichever genre the director goes in, he’s still a great storyteller. We are going to check out this film no matter what. But let us know what you think about Aster’s shift to the fringe. Will you be seeing Eddington on July 18
About: “In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff and mayor sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico.”
Eddington is written and directed by Ari Aster and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, with Austin Butler and Emma Stone.

Stephen King is a brand that just won’t quit, like Marvel or Star Wars. If you think about it he’s sort of an extension of that genre what with his superpower characters and creatures from outer space.
The latest adaptation of one of his works is The Institute which will premiere on July 13 on MGM+.
The Institute, barely hit shelves in 2019 before it was in development for a limited series adaptation by the same crew who broughtMr. Mercedesto life. iHorror’s Michael Carpenter called the novel a mix of IT and Firestarter.
Officially, this eight episode series follows a, “12-year-old genius Luke Ellis is kidnapped, he awakens at The Institute, a facility full of children who all got there the same way he did, and who are all possessed of unusual abilities. In a nearby town, haunted former police officer Tim Jamieson (Barnes) has come looking to start a new life, but the peace and quiet won’t last, as his story and Luke’s are destined to collide.”
The Institute premieres on MGM+ on July 13.
