  Banner Alzheimer’s Institute will hold the sixth-annual “Shine a Light on All Dementias” community event from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, in the main parking lot of the facility, located at 901 E. Willetta Street, Phoenix. The free event is designed to challenge stereotypes, raise awareness and bring hope for Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia, in recognition of National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.Included will be family activities, live music by Grammy-nominated artist Aaron White, “mindful moments” exercises, community resources and more. Internationally recognized Alzheimer’s research leader Dr. Eric Reiman will provide a message of hope and progress. A recognition ceremony will honor trailblazing people who “shine a light” for those living with cognitive changes.   October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Are you up-to-date on your screenings? Although patients typically start out with a standard mammogram—an X-ray of the breasts—to screen for breast cancer, Saumil Kadakia MD, a radiologist with Banner Imaging, reminds us that a number of other screening modalities exist. If something is found on your mammogram, you may be called back for a diagnostic mammogram for a closer look. Additionally, patients with dense breast tissue or a higher risk of breast cancer may need further screenings, like a breast ultrasound or MRI, which provide more detailed images.Keep in mind that being asked to return for further testing doesn't mean something is wrong.
