Our 2024 commencement in Orlando "The City Beautiful" celebrated the incredible achievements of over 2,300 graduates from all walks of life. With a median age of 37, and 46% being first-generation college graduates, this class showed resilience and determination every step of the way.Graduate speaker Kyle Brewer from Bushnell, IL, shared how he became a Family Nurse Practitioner while balancing full-time work, family, and coaching sports: "My life was a series of naps. Despite the challenges, I flourished because my degree was earned, not given."Madelyn Hurst from Celebration, FL, who earned her B.A. in Educational Studies - Special & Elementary Education, inspired her fellow graduates with her story of overcoming personal loss: "To pull yourself out of mediocrity is a feat, and reclaiming my life was worth every step."Laura Anderson from Mount Pleasant, WI, who earned her M.S. in Management & Leadership, shared the mantra that helped her overcome personal and professional struggles: “Begin again.”Ralene Berry from Conroe, TX, completed two master’s degrees in just eight months. She encouraged her fellow graduates: "We are never too old and it is never too late for a second, third, or even fourth chance."Keynote speaker Brandon Fleming, founder of the Harvard Diversity Project, reminded us of the importance of overcoming challenges: "When fear shows up, square your shoulders, spread your arms wide, and remember every success and every failure is wind beneath your wings."We honor our 244 military graduates, those who traveled from across the globe, and every one of you who overcame obstacles to reach this milestone. Here's to the Class of 2024—your journey is just beginning!#WGUGrad #OrlandoCommencement

Brandon Fleming’s speech was 🔥! So proud of my husband, Steven Bowman, for graduating with a Master’s of Business today, after having obtained a Bachelor’s in Education from WGU and being a Respiratory Therapist for 24 years! 💙🧑🎓🎉

I will never ever forget this experience! The feeling I had during the ceremony was a feeling I have never experienced. I now realize that I finally respect and appreciate myself. As a nurse and a mom, I always put others first and celebrate the wins of others. But I have wins too, and being present at graduation with other amazing graduates was so inspiring! Brandon’s speech made me realized I EARNED IT!! And for that, it’s okay to celebrate MY WIN!! Congrats all!!

It was an honor and privilege to celebrate the accomplishment of my MSML with over 1400 fellow graduates over the weekend! I was also one of the first to complete WGU's BS Supply Chain and Operations Management program last year. Additionally, I am proud to say that I am part of that group of first-generation graduates. My family has experienced tremendous loss throughout my time at WGU and since I graduated, and it was so wonderful to finally get to celebrate together. A huge thank you to the faculty and staff, as well as the commencement speakers and anthem singer, for a phenomenal commencement experience. I'll never forget it.

This was a wonderful experience. I was a nervous graduate, but I’m thankful I chose Orlando for my graduation ceremony. All speakers were motivational and gave me something to take back and implement in my personal and professional life. Thanks WGU!

🎊 As we approach the end of the fourth quarter and gear up for the winter break, I want to share a special moment of celebration that’s close to my heart. Here’s a proud snapshot of my son, in his final year of elementary school, holding a certificate for making it to the Head of School List. This isn’t just a proud parental moment, but also a poignant reminder of the rewards of hard work and determination.Making the Deans List in fifth grade, his last year before moving on to bigger challenges, is an incredible achievement. It mirrors the milestones we strive for in our professional journeys – the culmination of consistent effort, resilience, and a thirst for learning. In the corporate world, as in academics, such achievements are significant. They’re not just accolades; they’re indicators of the potential to grow and excel even further. As we wind down this quarter, let’s take a moment to appreciate our successes and those of the people around us.This achievement by my young scholar is a testament to the values we cherish both at home and in the workplace. It’s a fantastic way to cap off this part of his academic journey and a beautiful start to the holiday season. Here’s to celebrating success and nurturing the next generation of achievers!#ProudParent #academicexcellence #EndOfYearReflection #futureleaders #futureleadership #shamelesskidpost

The bloom is off the ivys…Boston College (my alma mater) made the Forbes list as a new ivy. Eagles soar!Forbes is calling out a list of influential public and private schools that hiring managers are looking to for the best and the brightest. Forbes’ conclusion: “great state schools and ascendant private ones are turning out hungry graduates; the Ivies are more apt to turn out entitled ones. And in creating the latter, the Ivies have taken the value they’ve spent centuries creating—a degree that employers craved—and in just a few years done a lot to forfeit it….None of this suggests that the Ivies have completely lost their luster. It just means that, through miscalculation and mismanagement, they’ve given up the centuries-old free pass conveyed by employers—even from their own alumni.”Exclusive: Employers Are Souring On Ivy League Grads, While These 20 “New Ivies” Ascend - Forbeshttps://lnkd.in/ejUyu4A7

As more people question the value of higher education, I believe those of us who have experienced the transformative impact of a college degree, and those of us who are working to advance and sustain the opportunities provided by a higher education need to continue to explain why it matters more than ever. A education, in particular, can change forever the trajectory of a family, a nation, and the world. Here are some reflections I shared with our Tribe on how we are building a better tomorrow at the Alma Mater of the Nation.https://lnkd.in/esexYSUv

"Our naming that aspirational goal [of 70 percent of working age adults having achieved a post-secondary credential] really is a rallying cry to say, irrespective of which one of those [underserved] communities you come from, you should be supported to have access to a post-secondary [education], to persist [and] thrive in that experience, and to complete that experience for your economic advancement.” - Elizabeth González, chief program and strategy officer at College Futures Foundation Join Eloy Ortiz Oakley, our president & CEO, and Dr. Elizabeth González, our chief program & strategy officer, as they discuss the why behind College Futures’ shift in strategy and answer questions about the year ahead and potential partnership opportunities. Numerous people have asked me, "Why didn't you participate in any of Clayton State's commencement ceremonies this past weekend since you are a 2023 graduate?"First, I want to congratulate all my peers who graduated this semester!! Despite my absence, my spirits and prayers were with you all.But for me, I know that my work isn't done. I've caught my second wind and am focused on what's in store for me next year. So, instead of celebrating, I'm still studying and preparing like I have four more years left. And I will do that every four years for the rest of my life. 😎 I've studied a lot of great athletes, entertainers, politicians, and academics, and they all have one thing in common; They are obsessed with learning from their losses and mistakes and enjoy utilizing their earned wisdom on new challenges while inspiring others. And how well they do that under pressure defines their character and leadership style to the masses. For me, receiving a college degree is just the result of being someone who wanted to spend 1,460 days working on their writing, communication, and time-management skills to prepare themselves for a new set of challenges that requires the addition of even more skills.I've shown people that I can spend 1,460 days achieving a goal against all odds while inspiring and communicating to others that they can do the same. The most beneficial thing I got from being a college student at Clayton State University was the opportunity to practice and receive valuable feedback on my efforts from excellent researchers and practitioners in their respective fields. When I started college, I didn't have an endgame. I had a game plan. That's the difference between me and most people, in and out of college.Besides, I'll be back in Spring 2024.#Dreamsmadereal #NoLimits

Givers are winners ultimately. Give and do more than is asked or expected and ultimately people will reward you 10 times over.---The quality and quantity of the service you render, plus the attitude with which you render it, determine the amount of pay you get and the sort of job you hold. The people who are promoted to the best positions in the company are those who make it a practice to go the extra mile, to do more than they are paid to do, and to do it willingly and cheerfully. You take the first important step toward determining your own future when you make the conscious decision to approach every task with a positive outlook and to stick with the job until it is done. If you find this attitude difficult at first, you’ll discover it eventually becomes part of you. And after you begin to realize the benefits that accrue to you because you are known as someone who always gives a little extra, you wouldn’t consider doing things any other way.Source: Napoleon Hill Archives: https://lnkd.in/e-z9ns8w

Dear Students, Get Involved! A wise person once said, "The more you put into your college experience, the more you'll get out of it. Get involved, and you'll discover passions you never knew you had."I can personally attest to this. My journey at Humber College truly began when I got involved with the Black Student Support and Engagement (BSSE) program. As a first-year student, I was searching for a place where I could build connections, and I found exactly that in BSSE. The events and activities immediately drew me in, and before long, I was spending most of my time there. Not only did I find a community, but I also found an opportunity to work as an Outreach Assistant. In this role, I support the Program Coordinator and facilitators in creating and implementing programs to help Black-identifying students navigate campus life.Getting involved with BSSE has given me a profound sense of community, belonging, and unshakeable confidence. It connected me with incredible individuals who saw potential in me that I hadn’t yet recognized. For example, it was my colleagues at BSSE who encouraged me to run for office as a student union leader, something I hadn’t previously considered. Did I always dream of becoming a student leader? Honestly, no. Was I fully aware of Humber’s student union before? Not really. But through this community, I found the inspiration and support to pursue this path. There’s something truly magical about knowing that a group of people believes in you. Getting involved was the best decision I made in my first year at Humber College. It empowered me to dream bigger, and today, as I enter my third year, I’m proud to say that I serve as the Chair of the Board of Directors for Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber Student Union, IGNITE.So, to every student out there, don’t just attend college or university this fall semester, experience it. Find your community, get involved, and watch how it transforms your life.#leadership #toronto #humbercollege #universityofgulephhumber #community #childandyouthcare #ontario #service #studentsuccess #blackstudentsuccess
